The Conditions Treated at Eye Care Center Mooresville
If you have never visited our Mooresville optometrist office, you may have some questions about the type of conditions we treat. Whether your primary care physician detected a problem in a recent exam and referred you to us, or you simply noticed some unusual symptoms on your own, we treat a variety of conditions, including the following:
- Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis. Pink eye is a common eye condition that features symptoms that include redness and swelling of the conjunctiva, which is the mucous membrane that covers the eyelid and eye surface. Pink eye is often caused by a virus or bacteria, dry eyes, allergies, chemicals, fumes, or smoke and is not dangerous, or particularly serious. Conjunctivitis usually lasts for 7-10 days without any treatment, but it does cause concerns because it is highly contagious via touch. Sometimes pink eye can become more serious, and we encourage you to reach out to us if you experience pain, intense eye redness, or extreme light sensitivity or blurred vision.
- Diabetic Eye Disease. If you recently received a diabetes diagnosis, it is important to immediately focus on keeping your vision healthy to avoid deterioration and possible blindness. Since fluctuations in blood sugar for sufferers of diabetic eye disease may cause changes in the blood vessels in the retina, it is critical that you monitor your blood sugar, take your medicine, and eat a diabetic-friendly diet, in addition to our work with you.
- Glaucoma. Glaucoma puts your optic nerve, which transmits images you see to your brain, at risk and worsens over time for many diabetics. We recommend that our diabetic patients visit us each year. Depending on the severity of your condition, we sometimes recommend visiting us every six months.
- Macular Degeneration. This incurable eye condition is the leading cause of eye loss, affecting 10 million Americans, and is caused by the deterioration of the core part of the retina. We will work with you to learn to cope with this condition at each stage.
